24 years after 9/11, America’s immigration system is still defined by that day. The old INS was dismantled. USCIS, ICE, and CBP were born. The Patriot Act, biometrics, SEVIS, and Secure Communities reshaped how families, students, and businesses experience immigration. What was once a service became security-first. I was one block away on 9/11. Today I’m here, two blocks from the Memorial, remembering those we lost and reflecting on how 9/11 changed immigration forever.
