Four lottery players in California missed Saturday's Powerball jackpot by one number but they still won nearly $1.17 million each, before federal taxes. Two of the tickets that won a listed prize amount of $1,165,399 were sold in the San Francisco Bay Area. The other two tickets were sold in Southern California. All of the tickets matched five numbers but just missed out on the Powerball — and a $1 billion jackpot. California does not levy a state tax on the winnings.
