I'm Ravespecter and how realistic are the highways in Cyberpunk 2077? In gaming, we don’t always focus on civil engineering, but CD Projekt Red’s Night City is a fascinating, messy sci-fi future case study
In Cyberpunk, the streets and highways have amazing detail but also some less that amazing choices and I cover as many as I can.
I spent way too much time staring at asphalt to figure out the mystery of the red, blue, and orange lanes and their secret Japanese inspiration. From Arasaka’s illegal private security lanes to the mirrored textures in the City Center that send NPC drivers straight into concrete walls, we’re looking at how civil engineering disasters and development crunch actually made the game better. By digging into the original TTRPG lore from Cyberpunk 2020 and 2045, it becomes clear that these messy, patchwork roads actually tell a story of corporate greed and poor city planning that fits the setting perfectly.
