DID I MISS VALUE?

???? Sometimes, to get the maximum value in the long run, you need to be willing to miss value on occasion.

???? That said, looking back on this hand, here are my thoughts.

Flop mixing check calls and check-raises with this hand is totally reasonable for two reasons.

1. vs UTG we are going to have less check raises, due to how strong their range is, I have a lot of 32s, 54, 4x, flushdraws that are going to have to call once or twice then fold, so its nice to strengthen our call range with more hands that can call down 3 streets.

2. The stack-to-pot ratio here is very small, given our opponent was only 20 big blinds deep preflop. When the SPR is low, it will be easy to get all the chips in on a later street, even if we dont check-raise now. Whereas when stacks are deeper, you need to check-raise your two pair combos to build the pot, lower the SPR to make sure it’s easy to get stacks in by the river.

Now, on the turn, I think my check call was less profitable than a check jam. Most players won’t find as many bluffs as they should on the river, and some may not even value bet light enough. We also still have plenty of straight flush draws that could jam turn, so it’s unlikely our opponent would fold an Ace here. So, taking those two things into account, I’d like to see myself check jam this turn in the future.

Nobody plays perfectly, but what’s important is that you document your hands and are always finding ways to improve... especially with hands you won, because those are the easiest to overlook.
