The Rockies come into this game struggling much more than the Guardians. They are in last place in the NL West and haven’t been able to get any win streaks going. The Guardians on the other hand have been playing great baseball and are sitting in 2nd place in the AL Central. They have been one of the more surprising teams in the whole MLB up to this point. They have a winning record and are just a couple games out of first place.
The Guardians will start Triston McKenzie in this game. He is 3-5 with a 3.09 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. His record isn’t great, but he has some nasty stuff. He rarely allowed baserunners either. He gets unlucky sometimes with run support. He tends to go really deep into game too. In his last 7 starts he has gone 6+ innings in each of them. In those 7 starts he allowed over 3 runs just one time. His record is a little skewed for sure, but he is a good pitcher.
The Rockies will send out Chad Kuhl to the mound in this one. He is 4-3 with a 3.70 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. Kuhl is decent, but you never know what you’re going to get from him. In his last start he gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in just 4.1 innings. The start before that he went 6 innings and gave up 0 runs. His walks are troubling, as he has given up 24 walks in 58 innings. We will see how he fares against a Guardians offense that ranks 9th in runs per game and 8th in hits per game.
There is still a game to be played tonight between these two teams, but as we look to the third game in the series there’s a few key stats to look at. The Guardians are 21-8 SU in their last 29 interleague games against a team with a losing record. They play very well against national league teams. They are also 4-0 in their last 4 games against an opposing pitcher with a WHIP above 1.30. It is hard to rely on Chad Kuhl in this matchup. I expect the Guardians to score some runs and for Triston Mckenzie to go deep into this game and lead his team to a win. Take the Guardians (-120).
