The reason the Yankees are such big road favorites is because of who is pitching for them. Nestor Cortes will take the mound. He is 6-3 with a 2.51 ERA and 0.99 WHIP. He has 85 strikeouts over 79 innings pitched and only 19 walks. Cortes has been fantastic this season and is right in the middle of the CY Young race. Another good road start in this game will continue to help his case. He has already faced this Guardians team back on April 23rd. He went 6.1 innings and only allowed 2 runs on 1 hit. The Yankees won that game 5-4. If Cortes replicates his last outing against the Guardians they Yanks will be in great shape to win this one.
The Guardians will send out Triston Mckenzie in this game. He is 4-6 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. MCkenzie is a decent pitcher, but after his last two starts it is hard to think he is any good. He has allowed 13 runs and 17 hits over his last 10.1 innings pitched. Now he faces a Yankees team that averages 5 runs and 7.8 hits per game. I don’t know what has gotten into Mckenzie because he was having a decent year, but his last two starts scare me and have me leaning the other way here.
The Yankees are a great road team. They are 22-12 SU on the road. So them being on the road doesn’t scare me here. They will have their ace on the mound and they are facing a weak pitcher. They are healthy and the best team in all of baseball. The Yankees swept the Guardians back in April so we know they are better than them. Take the Yankees here at (-160).
