Tuesday night brings a MAC showdown when the Ohio Bobcats visit the Ball State Cardinals. Kick
off is scheduled at 7 pm EST from Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Indiana.
Ohio (7-3) is currently first in the MAC East and comes to this game riding a 5 game win streak
after their W last week 37-21 against Miami (Ohio). Kurtis Rourke passed for 362 yards and 3
touchdowns on a 28-35 night. Jacoby Jones caught 4 passes for 78 yards and two scores while Sieh
Bangura averaged 7.3 yards per carry, rushing for 145 total yards and 1 touchdown. Defensively
they were able to make stops on third downs forcing Miami to go for 1-7 and controlled the time
of possession (41:20 – 18:40).
For the season, the Bobcats are averaging 33.8 points per game on 459.1 total yards of offense.
They are passing for 314.7 yards per contest while rushing for 129.5. QB Kurtis Rourke is
completing 68.8 of his passes for 3087 yards (7th in the country), 24 touchdowns and only 4
interceptions. Sam Wiglusz has caught 59 passes for 714 yards and 9 touchdowns while Sieh
Bangura has added 8 touchdowns rushing on 127 attempts for 640 yards.
Defensively, Ohio is allowing 32 points to opposing teams. They are yielding 484 yards of total
offense on 316.2 passing yards per game and have sacked opposing QBs 27 times so far this
season (tied for 28th) while intercepting 7 passes.
Ball State (5-5) is coming to this game looking to become bowl eligible, and after a loss in their last
outing vs Toledo, where the failed to protect a 7-point lead in the third quarter. Carson Steele had
another great game rushing for 198 yards and three touchdowns on 28 attempts. He has rushed
for 190+ yards in his last two games. John Paddock passed for only 94 yards and 1 interception and
Brady Hunt caught 4 passes for 56 yards.
The Cardinal´s offense is led by John Paddock with 2,321 passing yards and 16 touchdowns, but he
has also thrown 11 interceptions. Senior wide receiver Jayshon Jackson has been the top target,
catching 66 passes for 755 yards and three scores. But their best player on offense is running back
Carson Steele, who has rushed for 1,295 yards (4th in the nation) and 12 touchdowns, averaging
5.2 yards per carry. They are averaging 24.4 points per game and 392.9 yards of total offense per
outing behind 150.9 rushing yards.
Defensively, the Cardinals are allowing 27.3 points per game behind only 217.3 passing yards,
which is good for just 6.2 yards per pass this season, while yielding 184.4 rushing yards per
contest. They have recorded 20 sacks and 6 interceptions so far.
For Ball State to have a shot in this game they will need to establish their run game early. The Ohio
rushing defense has had its moments holding 4 of their opponents to less than 60 rushing yards
per game but have been destroyed by Northern Illinois and Kent State (allowing them 605 rushing
yards). Ohio is the better overall team and are favored by 4 points, but with an offense relying
heavily on the run, and a strong defense against the pass, we expect the Cardinals to keep this
