"How did you get caught cheating the system?"
There was a kid in my high school, Jason, who pulled off one of the boldest stunts I’ve ever seen.
During math class one day, he noticed our teacher had left her login credentials for the gradebook written on a sticky note at her desk.
Instead of ignoring it, Jason got an idea that made him a legend—at least for a little while.
He memorized the login and started editing his grades.
At first, he was subtle, bumping himself up a few points so it didn’t look suspicious.
But Jason couldn’t resist taking it further.
Word spread quickly, and soon he was charging students $20 to $50 to “fix” their grades.
I was one of the students who paid him.
I wasn’t failing, but my chemistry grade wasn’t looking great, and $20 seemed like a small price to pay for peace of mind.
Jason even had a “system” to avoid suspicion.
He’d tell us, “Give it a couple of days before you check your grades.”
For weeks, everything went smoothly.
Jason was practically running a side business, and everyone joked about needing to “talk to Jason” whenever grades dropped.
But then he got sloppy.
One day, Jason accidentally bumped a student’s grade from 32% to 102%.
It didn’t take long for the teacher to notice.
She caled the student in, and they immediately cracked, spilling everything.
The next day, Jason got called to the principal’s office.
At first, he denied it, but the school checked his computer activity and found everything.
To make things worse, they found a stack of cash in his locker from all the students he’d helped.
Jason got suspended, had to redo the entire year, and lost access to school computers.
Every student who paid him—including me—got detention, and our grades were reset.
