Every operation is different, the level of intensity and violence can vary. One thing that’s reassuringly predictable is the fact things will be out of your control. When we accept this it gives freedom from fear.

Each man mentally prepares in their own personal way. Each individual has a process, a routine. It’s the internal dialogue we all have that allows the mental aspect to match the physical. It can act as a coping mechanism but primarily as a performance enhancer.

It’s the attention to detail and preparation that comes to the forefront when it’s needed.

The process can be deeply personal but the benefactor is the group. Knowing each man beside you has conducted their rituals breeds confidence, and cohesion. And those factors can be the difference between winning and loosing.
