US President Donald Trump's tariffs are rattling global markets and fuelling fears of a recession. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has warned that global trade will shrink this year, and it squarely blames Trump's tariff policies for the downturn. The WTO has slashed its trade forecast for 2025. Earlier, it had projected global goods trade to grow by 2.7 percent. Now, it expects a decline of 0.2 percent. North America, the report says, will be the worst hit, facing the steepest drop in trade. WTO Chief Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala highlighted the growing rift between the US and China, calling their ongoing trade war "really worrying". And she's not alone. The US Federal Reserve, America’s central bank, is also concerned. Its Chair, Jerome Powell, says tariffs are complicating the Fed's task. Tariffs are making goods more expensive, which could push inflation higher. In response, the Fed may be forced to raise interest rates.
