LOTTERY NEWS RECENT STORIES (AUGUST 2022)

LOTTERY NEWS STORIES (AUGUST 2022):

1) An Iowa man convicted of a lottery rigging scheme was paroled in July of 2022.

2) A self proclaimed “lottery lawyer” was recently convicted in NY on 5 counts of wire fraud, honest services wire fraud and money laundering. Testimony was released from a Mega Millions winner who won $1.5 billion from South Carolina. The winner is thought to have lost around $87 million as a result of this attorney. This convocation involved multiple lottery winners.

Timothy Schultz explains that it can be very difficult to trust if you win a lottery jackpot. Trust and transparency are very important.

3) A father in Glasgow, Scotland banked 1 million pounds in July of 2022 following the advice of his late mother. The winner is quoted as saying my mom used to always say that “a win leads to a win.” After the man won a small lottery prize, he remembered his mom’s advice and played 2 lucky dips and won 1 million!

4) A EuroMillions ticket holder from the UK recently claimed a record 195 million pounds! It is the largest lottery jackpot in the UK of all time. Interestingly, in the small seaside town of Formby, there was a very strange letter claiming to be from this anonymous winner. This mysterious letter claims that the winning ticket was not purchased in this town despite rumors suggesting otherwise.

5) In Salem, Massachusetts, a man was handed the wrong lottery ticket, but thanks to that mistake, he won $1 million dollars! He had hoped to play a $10-dollar ticket, but the clerk gave him a $5-dollar ticket. This mistake fortuitously scored him $1 million dollars!

6) A man in Virginia was told that a Mega Millions ticket was not a winner. A few weeks later, he got a second opinion and learned that it was worth 1 million dollars!

7) In Alicante, Spain recently a woman who used to beg on the streets for money won 1.3 million from the lottery. She was known to beg for money on a street in front of a bank and would buy lottery tickets from time-to-time at a nearby tobacco shop. After learning of her win, the woman returned to the shop and is quoted as saying, “you have solved my life.”

8) Have you ever told a teacher that a dog ate your homework? Apparently, dogs can also eat lottery tickets. In Salem, Oregon recently a couple found their lottery ticket shredded after their dog chewed their ticket. Luckily, lottery officials were kind enough to put it back together. The ticket ended up being worth $8!

9) There is an unclaimed lottery ticket worth $1.34 billion dollars that was sold in Illinois in July of 2022! The lucky winner has 1 year to claim the ticket, but only 60 days to claim it with the cash, half right away option.
