“Sony Invests a Further $1 Billion into Fortnite Maker Epic Games. Sony has invested another $1 billion into Fortnite developer Epic Games in order to deepen its relationship with the firm "in the metaverse field". This increases the funding provided by the PlayStation 5 manufacturer to a total of $1.45 billion, as Sony made two other payments of $250 million in July 2020 and then another $200 million in April 2021. This latest round of funding represents the company's biggest investment in Epic Games yet. Sony is joined by KIRKBI — the firm behind The LEGO Group — which also invested $1 billion in Epic Games. This brings the Fortnite maker's post-money equity valuation to $31.5 billion. While this deal is designed to strengthen Sony's position in the metaverse field, its recent acquisition of Destiny developer Bungie is all about improving its future live-service titles. One of them is likely to be a reboot of Twisted Metal from Firesprite Games. Sony is expected to make more studio acquisitions in the future.”

“Classic RPG Collection Shadowrun Trilogy Spotted on PlayStation Servers. Assets for Shadowrun Trilogy have been discovered on PlayStation Network servers, as leaked through Reddit. The collection, which includes Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun Dragonfall - Director's Cut, and Shadowrun Hong Kong - Extended Edition, was officially announced for Nintendo Switch last year (due to arrive in 2022), but it's looking like a PlayStation release is also planned. What's more, the Trilogy received Taiwanese ratings on both PS5 and PS4 just a couple of weeks back (as spotted by Gematsu). It's almost certainly happening, then — we just don't know when.”

“Kingdom Hearts 4 Revealed, No Date or Platforms Given. Kingdom Hearts 4 has been announced as part of the series' 20th-anniversary celebration. No platforms are confirmed and neither is a possible release date. The trailer ends with the phrase "magic in the making", suggesting the title is still quite a ways off. The announcement comes at the end of the trailer embedded above, which features a big compilation of all the footage shown during the anniversary event in Tokyo.”

“Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Reassures Fans That Expansions Are in the Works. There's been quite a bit of speculation surrounding the future of Cyberpunk 2077 following the release of update 1.5 back in February. That game-changing patch launched alongside the infinitely improved PlayStation 5 version of 2077, but developer CD Projekt Red has been pretty much silent since — aside from a smaller update that hit about a month later. Given that the last patch for 2077 arrived in March, we would assume that another update will be dropping within the next few weeks — but it really all depends on what CDPR's immediate plans are. While we doubt that the game will get another update as significant as 1.5 was, we could still see the studio making a lot of improvements in the coming months — especially as we edge closer to the title's first proper expansion announcement.”

“Users report their digital PlayStation classics are ‘expiring’ and unplayable. Multiple PlayStation users have reported that some digital games are no longer booting on classic consoles such as PS3 and PS Vita. As summarised by Kotaku, multiple users have reported that their PSOne Classic version of Chrono Cross now displays a decades-old expiration date and will not boot after being downloaded.”
