With that out of the way, the problem that I’ve come to realize I have is that now that I have all of these games I want to play, I’ve created the thing that every single person who plays video games dreads completing the most, their own backlog. I have 38 games in my backlog so far, I’ve managed to play through 2 of them, and I’m 2 months into 2022 so far. How am I supposed to complete all of this, I mean even trying to lowball it I’m looking at like, at least 1000 hours across these games, it took me a year alone playing CSGO to reach 1000 hours, and that’s back when I had literally nothing else to do all day.

Obviously the clear answer to this is that I don’t have to finish everything this year, and trust me I know that, but if I go on forever with this massive backlog of games to play, I’ve become a literal walking stereotype. Look at all of these memes made about people who don’t play their backlog, and it’s true. It’s just so much time to decide to dedicate to one thing, and honestly while I seem interested in a lot of these games knowing myself realistically I’m gonna drop some of these. I talk big about Final Fantasy VII, mostly because Sephiroth looks like the coolest villain i’ve ever seen, and have you seen the combat, this looks crazy.

But being honest with myself, JRPG’s are the most boring type of game to me, not anything to do with the games themselves, there’s a reason Final Fantasy VII is considered one of the greatest games of all time, Stryxo youtube channel with 70,000 subs saying JRPG’s are personally boring to him isn’t gonna change that fact or bankrupt Square Enix. But I’m trying to be realistic here, on average it takes me like, 100 hours to play through a pokemon game (i’m really thorough with them) and no matter what at the 4th gym I always get bored, put the game down, and pick it up 9 months later. Thankfully because it’s pokemon I can actually pick up right where I left off because all of the games follow the same type of story, but I can’t do that with Final Fantasy. I know for a fact that this is a Rayquaza and he’s really strong and looks cool, what is a final fantasy.

33 hours is just a massive commitment to drop on a brand new game, and it seems so much easier to just fall back on a game that I already know by playing a few matches of CSGO, or playing through all the halo games for the 100th time, or making a brand new city in cities skylines. But doing that only makes it that much easier for me to get burnt out on those games, and then suddenly I’m making a whole new video on that same topic. That’s not even mentioning just how many other things I have backlogs in or want to keep up with. Look at all these anime I still have to watch, and look at the anime I still need to finish watching, I haven’t watched Initial D in 8 months I barely remember what’s happening.

This is all without mentioning that new games are coming out faster than I can keep up with, so that’s only more games being added to the backlog every single time I can’t play one. Just this month we’ve had Dying Light 2, Sifu, Lost Ark, Horizon Forbidden West, and we’re rounding out the month with Elden Ring, which at this point is pretty much guaranteed to be a generation defining masterpiece of a game. Which actually now that I think about it is really unfortunate for Horizon Forbidden West because that’s twice now that the Horizon franchise has been overshadowed not just by a new game coming out, but a new game that defines and inspires a generation of games to come.

I mean I eventually have to be able to complete my backlog list right? Like yeah I’m busy now, and I might be busy next week, and the next, but I recently quit my job to fully pursue this youtube, and that has to give me enough time to account for all the new games that are finally coming out now that game companies are getting used to working with the current conditions of the world in mind, and have had time to finish the games that originally got delayed, some for the better honestly. Can you imagine if Halo Infinite came out in 2020? What did that game look like, we barely have content now, what did they even have planned for release.

Speaking of new releases, and Elden Ring in general actually, I considered playing it to make a video on it, but souls games are long no matter what, and spending like 50 hours on a new game just isn’t a commitment I’m really ready to make, so onto the backlog list Elden Ring goes.
