If a driver suddenly passes out, certain Volkswagen models can detect it almost immediately. The system first tries to alert the driver. If there’s no response, the car applies brief braking, turns on the hazard lights, and begins steering itself toward the emergency lane. It then activates the horn to warn nearby drivers. Once the vehicle comes to a safe stop, the doors unlock and the car automatically places an SOS call for emergency help. This technology is designed to act when the driver can’t.
