When the judge went through our assets, the lottery winnings were never mentioned. Confused, she interrupted and asked about the money. The judge responded, saying no such lottery winnings were listed under my name. She was stunned. Here’s where things get interesting: in my country, only residents are allowed to claim lottery winnings, and since I had purchased the ticket while visiting my parents, I used my mother’s name on it. My lawyer calmly explained that the ticket was signed by my mother, making the money hers, not mine.
