Why do Americans HATE the METRIC System??? ????????????????

Idea:
If you're European or from the rest of the world, you'd notice How Americans use yards, pounds or Fahrenheit instead of normal units, but why did it happen? So When US became independent, it kept the British Imperial units, even the British shifted to metric, but the US never made a full shift. So if you use the normal units, would you go to jail? Well no cuz both systems are legal thanks to the US Metric Act in 1866. The US once even launched a Metric Conversion board but it faced a lot of backlash who saw it as "un-American". But which system do you like more? tell me in the comments.
